Series Overview: Canceled

This 4-week series, explore the full Canceled series, tackles cancel culture through the lens of biblical truth. Over four weeks, students will explore topics such as failure, judgment, darkness, and death, learning how Jesus transforms these into stories of redemption. Each week builds on the last, providing a comprehensive understanding of God’s grace in the face of cultural condemnation.

Week 1: God Cancels Failure

Scripture: Proverbs 24:16; 2 Samuel 11:2-17; Psalm 51:16-17

This week focuses on God's ability to cancel our failures. Using David’s story of sin and repentance, students see how even the gravest mistakes can be transformed by God’s grace. An engaging illustration could involve sharing a personal story of failure and recovery, showing students the power of redemption. Bottom Line: God canceled failure.

Week 2: Jesus Canceled Judgment

Scripture: James 2:13; John 8:1-11; Romans 14:12-13

Judgment is a common response in cancel culture, but Jesus shows us a different way. By examining the story of the woman caught in adultery, students learn the importance of mercy over judgment. Use a story about misjudging someone as a hook to illustrate the lesson. Bottom Line: Jesus canceled judgment.

Week 3: Jesus Canceled Darkness

Scripture: John 8:12; Acts 9:1-9; Matthew 5:14-16

Darkness is often used as a metaphor for sin and ignorance. Yet, Jesus’ light can illuminate our path. The transformation of Saul to Paul offers a powerful illustration of moving from darkness into light. Consider using a blindfold game to demonstrate the concept of spiritual blindness. Bottom Line: Jesus canceled darkness.

Week 4: Jesus Canceled Death

Scripture: Isaiah 25:8; 2 Timothy 1:9-10; Romans 6:12-13

Death is a reality we all face, but Jesus offers life and hope. Through His resurrection, death was defeated. Use a story of personal loss to engage students in this important topic. Highlight Jesus’ victory over death and invite students to live in the freedom He provides. Bottom Line: Jesus canceled death.

Teaching Points

Failure is something we all experience. It can feel devastating, like there's no coming back from it. But Proverbs 24:16 reminds us that though we may fall, we rise again through God's grace. David's story of failure with Bathsheba shows us that even grave mistakes can be met with God's redemption. Despite his sin, David was called a man after God's own heart. How? Because he repented and sought God earnestly. God canceled failure. He doesn't hold your worst moments against you. When David wrote Psalm 51, he was in a place of brokenness, realizing that God desires a humble and contrite heart over sacrifices. You are more than your lowest moment, and God wants to use your failures as platforms for His grace.
